What is hair static ?
Hair Static occurs when your hair builds up an electric charge, meaning it has gained some extra electrons thanks to friction or a change in humidity. That makes the strands of your hair repel each other, leaving your hair frizzy and difficult to style.
Static electricity is created when two, unlike objects, rub against each other. The process causes electrons to transfer from one object to the other. The object that loses the electrons gets a positive charge, while the object that gains electrons gets a negative charge. Take a hat for instance. When the material of your hat rubs against the strands of your hair, they swap electrons. This swap causes a kind of electric charge to build upon your hair that we know it as hair static. If there is humidity in the air, the charge can usually just go away.
For example, if you wear a hat, electrons can build up on the hat. When you take it off, the negative electrons may go with your hat, making your hair positively charged. As a result, your hair lifts up because your positive hairs are repelling each other, just like magnets.
Cause of hair static
Hair is made up of small atoms and is capable of receiving an electric charge. Each hair atom has protons, neutrons and electrons. According to the laws of physics, when two atoms collide, electron exchange takes place between two objects. In this way, electrons are exchanged between the two when the hair comes in contact with another object. An object that loses an electron has a positive charge and another loses a negative charge by gaining an electron. Simply put, when the hair receives an extra electron due to contact with another object (hat, comb, etc.), the hair flies and hangs.
As a general rule, your hair is negatively charged. Cosmetic chemists have found a way to combat static by making hair products that are positively charged. These can neutralize each other to create harmony for your hair.
The main cause of electricity is the excessive dryness of the hair. If the hair is dry and dehydrated due to improper care, the possibility of hair static increases. Hair color and hair dechlorination is one of the most important factors in hair drying. Women who like light hair color often dechlorinate their hair over and over again. Light color on dechlorinated hair sits better, but after a while the hair becomes very dry and damaged. Dry and frizzy hair is one of the main reasons for hair static.
Drying or using a hair straightener and heating appliances to condition the hair is also one of the cases that cause damage to the hair shaft and makes the hair dry and brittle. Another thing that makes hair fly is direct sunlight. In general, people with dry hair face this problem.
Ways to prevent
Use the right shampoo
The first treatment is to deal with dry hair. Human hair can be dry, greasy, or normal. Dry and oily hair is not constant throughout life. For example, during puberty, hair becomes greasy due to the secretion of glands under the scalp. The use of conditioners, weather conditions, some medications, and can also aggravate dry hair. If you have dry hair, be sure to use shampoo for dry and damaged hair. These shampoos contain special conditioners that improve the quality of dry and damaged hair..
Use cotton hats and scarves
When leaving the house, use scarves and hats made of natural fibers or linen. Nylon and polyester hats also increase the electricity of the hair. . Limit the use of mousses, gels and conditioning products because these products contain a small amount of alcohol, which is a factor in drying hair. Of course, using non-alcoholic conditioners does not cause any problems and you can use it on hair.
Use suitable comb and brush
Plastic combs are the worst choice for arranging hair. Plastic combs and brushes damage the hair. If you have dry hair, you should not comb your hair with a plastic brush and comb, as it is more likely to generate static electricity. There are some combs and brushes under the name of anti – electricity, which are actually of different materials.
Use of natural oils
You can use natural and harmless oils to eliminate electricity from your hair. After bathing, wipe off excess hair with a towel. Use oil while the hair is still moist. Depending on the volume and length of the hair, pour a little coconut oil, olive, almond and in the palm of your hand and massage the ends of the hair and the whole stem with it.
About 1-2 hours before bathing, soak the hair shaft in high-fat mayonnaise, cover a nylon layer on them, and then wash your hair in the bath with a shampoo for dry or colored hair. Mayonnaise contains useful and effective compounds such as oil and eggs, and these compounds penetrate into the hair shaft, causing their softness and tenderness.
